Herve Leger AW 2013 Show: Backstage Beauty

By Julia Casella

The look for Fall 2013 Hervé Léger was biker-chic and while the clothes, nails and hair had a sophisticated edge. The fresh-faced models glowed down the catwalk.

Hair
Bumble and bumble‘s lead stylist Laurent Philippon created effortless cool-girl hair using just one product and a few easy techniques. He prepped wet hair with the new Bumble and Bumble Thickening Full Foam Mousse, dried it all the way with just his hands and a hair dryer and then took sections and sparingly, with a large curling iron, created waves. He said the combo of the mousse (that brings a little bit of hold and a satin finish) with the iron makes hair shiny and healthy looking. He then quickly brushed the curls and “just let them be” for a lived-in feel.
Makeup
Makeup artist Val Garland gave models a sun-kissed glow– making them radiate, despite the slushy conditions outside of Lincoln Center.  To achieve this bronzy look, she extended Hourglass’ Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer from underneath the cheekbones up onto the lids of the eyes and under the brow bones. She suggests using a stippling brush to really work in the bronzer and for a little color boost she popped some Stila Convertible Color in Camellia onto the apples of the check. She then added even more of a glow factor with Benefit Watt’s Up! highlighter. For eyes she skipped mascara and just used an eyelash curler (pumping it three times against the lashes) and then swiped lips with the slightly metallic, semi-sheer Sephora Rouge Shine Lipstick in Honeymoon leaving models illuminated and natural.
Nails
Going along with the cool-girl vibe, the models rocked dark nails in one of my all time favorite shades: OPI Lincoln Park After Dark.
