This just in: A how-to for one of my favorite hairstyles at the Emmys 2015, Anna Chlumsky’s beautifully braided updo. Basically, I love it like [her] dad loves Shelly. Here, hairstylist Creighton Bowman for Rene Furterer shares how he achieved this style.
- I started on towel-dried hair, putting a little Rene Furterer VOLUMEA volumizing foam – no rinse around the hairline and misting on the newRené Furterer VEGETAL TEXTURE SPRAY from roots to ends. I love how this new texturizing spray is light yet gives hair incredible body and volume.
- Next, we want to make the hair really full and luxurious, so I have Anna turn her head upside down for her blow-out, scrunching her hair as I work the blow-dryer. To make the Gibson Girl hair look modern, we pay attention to the silhouette of this classic updo, but style it so it’s loosely pulled out, with a tremendous amount of volume and texture.
- Then I made a messy French braid around the perimeter of the head, leaving lots of looseness for body and pushing the hair at the hairline forward to shape the slight wave that adds a little lift at the crown.
- I wrapped the rest of the hair into a loose bun and pinned it at the upper part of the back of the head, tucking in large 3-inch hair pins to make the bun more secure. Last, for hold I gave hair a light misting of the new René Furterer VEGETAL STRONG HOLD FINISHING HAIR SPRAY.
