Alexis Wolfer of The Beauty Bean‘s red hair is straight up Botticellian and she’s my fragrance soul mate. Seriously, I’ve never met one before. My fragrance picks run the gamut from Dior Hypnotic Poison to Fresh Lemon Sugar. She’s at the helm of beauty/lifestyle site The Beauty Bean, which highlights beauty inside and out. Here, her Five Rules in her words.
I’ve never left the gym saying, “Why the hell did I just do that.” Sure, it can be hard to drag yourself out of bed or off the couch, but no one ever said they felt worse after exercising. And no, you don’t need to run a marathon (as if – I don’t like doing ANYTHING for 3 to 5 hours, let alone running!). But breaking a sweat every day – or at least almost every day – gives you more energy, makes your skin glow and leaves your feeling stronger not only physically but also emotionally (for a fraction of the price of therapy!). It’s my best inner and outer beauty tip – well, that, and drink lots of water!
As someone who once measured her worth by her weight, I can assure you that your scale measures nothing of importance. It’s not a measure of your worth, beauty, health, sex appeal, fitness, or anything else of value. Be active, be healthy and throw away that f’ing scale. Your weight isn’t your worth and there is no reason to measure your confidence, esteem or happiness with a digital readout. It’s life changing (and, no, you won’t gain weight… just your sanity).
If you can read, you should use eye cream. Okay, maybe not quite, but I am forever thankful that my Mom sent me to college with wrinkle cream in tow. That skin is thin (in the worst way possible) and one of the first areas to show signs of sun damage and aging – and not in the cute smile lines kinda way (which, for the record, aren’t really ever cute – except maybe on sexy men). Bottom line: use wrinkle cream nightly. (And wear SPF too.)
Stop complaining. Start changing. Create a life you actually love.
5. Be bold.
Do something that scares you. Take risks. Be brilliantly, beautifully bold. Start that business you’ve been dreaming about, go skydiving or travel abroad – alone. You rarely regret the things you do, but often those you don’t.
Thanks, Alexis! More Five Rules to come.
