Three Gym Must-haves For Sweaty Seshes

I don’t know if it’s my hormones or WHAT but lately, when I’m at the gym, I’m sweating beyond the beyond. Perhaps it’s this muggy fall weather/Indian summer, but if I exert, like a single JOULE (science class throwback! You like?), I’m suddenly, bafflingly schvitzing like the Spitting Image puppet version of Ronald Reagan in Genesis‘ masterful opus, the Land of Confusion video.

Luckily, I’ve got some items in my arsenal that take care of the situation most splendidly. Here, my three faves for workouts.

Therafit Shoes (starting at $95)

I find my feet “breathe” better in these bright sneakers created by Dr. Lisa Masterson. With their patented technology, the outside sole can be adjusted to allow an increase or decrease in impact resistant. There are also three adapters located within a shock-absorbing wedge in the sole of the shoe that can be removed to change the shoe’s impact resistance and cushioning. And the colors! Mine are a Crayola 8-pack red that I adore. Purchase them at therafitshoe.com.

KITSCH Hair Ties

I am deeply into these glittery metallic hair holders that give my Flywheel look a little kick–even when I’m looking pretty spent. Best of all, they look just as good on your wrist as they do when they’re busy holding up your hair so you can keep cooler. Wear them alone or stack and layer ’em. There are also headbands, if you’re so inclined. Prices start at $10 and they’re available at mykitsch.com, Anthropologie and Nordstrom.
Vichy Normaderm Total Mat Anti-Shine Mattifier ($25)
I don’t believe in wearing makeup to the gym (that’s just a recipe for breakouts), but I do believe in managing my facial situation ever so slightly–you never know who you’ll run into on the way there. Vichy’s new mattifying gel boasts the most incredible texture, is super-light and treats all causes of shine–even sweat. Plus, it contains a .5% concentration of salicylic acid as an exfoliating agent so I can treat my skin whilst combatting my daily oilslick WHILST working out. The brand claims it has a “blotting paper effect” and I can attest to this. In my workout today, my face was gloriously matte, despite an especially challenging “thighs” portion of Core Fusion. Vichy Normaderm Total Mat Anti-Shine Mattifier is available at vichyusa.com.
