Remember on
“Friends” when Monica and Rachel bet they know Joey and Chandler better than they know them; Ross writes the questions (game show-style) and eventually the stakes are raised: If the girls win, the chick and the duck have to go. If the guys win, they get the girls’ apartment.
During the trivia session, we learn that the guys’ TV Guide comes addressed to “Chanandlor Bong,” leading me to call fragrance expert
Chandler Burr Chanandlor Burr in my head whenever I read his writings for the
New York Times. Anywho, then we learn that Rachel SAYS her favorite movie is
“Dangerous Liaisons,” but her ACTUAL favorite movie is
“Weekend At Bernie’s.”
I have a similar answer to this question as it relates to my favorite salons. I SAY my favorite place for blowouts is Blow (and you really can’t do better than Gregory Patterson) and my favorite place for mani/pedis is Polished Beauty Bar. And to be fair, when I’m feeling more spendy, those are the places I go. But in New York, cheap gems abound and though they’re decidedly less posh and far more bare bones, when you need a quick appointment (you can always walk in at these joints) and boast an affinity for drinking water out of a cone-shaped paper cup, no-name “you can see it from street level” joints are key. But I’ll never share my inexpensive blowout and nail venues where blowouts are $33 (for hair my length) and manis are $5; pedis $10.
Naturally, they’re secret because I don’t want them getting too popular so I can no longer walk in but also because they’re both moderately dodgy. I bring my own shampoo and conditioner to the hair place. But I’m wondering: Do you have secret salons? If so, tell me about them (not the name, OBV) in the comments.
This is so appealing to me. I would totally risk sketchy alleys and shady parts of towns for a cheap and fabulous blowout!
Aly, let’s GO! xoxo
YES. And I must take you there. Yesterday I got a $12 blowout at a place in Brooklyn bookended by a dive bar (named CROSSROADS, no less!) and a sex shop!
