The new Bobbi Brown Corrector |
In (fellow BU grad!) Marisa Tomei‘s Oscar-winning performance in 1992’s My Cousin Vinny, there’s a dialogue that always flies into my internal monologue when I apply my makeup, especially concealer, which can be difficult to blend.
Vinny Gambini: You stick out like a sore thumb around here!
Mona Lisa Vito: (cupping her hand over her mouth as if she’s sharing a secret, yet says at full volume) Oh. Yeah. You blend.
Check it out at :43 below.
Most concealers with few exceptions, sadly, blend in a most Vinny Gambini manner, that is to say, not at all. I’m always on the hunt for a creamy consistency that blends down to nothingness leaving flawless skin behind. Bobbi Brown has remedied the dearth of selection in the cover-up market, and to that end, has launched an incredible new concealing duo, which she calls “the secret of the universe.” I’m here to tell you that’s no hyperbole. It’s excellent.
First, you brush on the Corrector in a peach or pink tone (using her Bobbi Brown concealer brush, which helps you get in the inner corner of the eye perfectly). This neutralizes the purple and green hues of undereye circles. Then, follow it up with a smooth layer of the yellow-toned Creamy Concealer to lighten and BLEND the area with the rest of the face.
The Bobbi method is to apply both the Corrector and Creamy Concealer right up under the lashline, extending it down to the upper cheek area. The result? A brighter, more awake looking eye area that never looks cakey, thanks to concentrated medium- to full-coverage emollient, but blendable formulation. Silica softens fine lines while Vitamins C and E offer antioxidant benefits. I’ve long used the yellow-based cream theory to counteract my blue-toned circles, followed by an application of a concealer that matches my skin. But switching to a pink one and then following it up with a yellow? Works like a CHARM. It’s truly the secret of the universe Bobbi’s totally been withholding until 2011 to share.
You’ll want to score this one, ladies. It’s a holy grail concealer for sure. It beats out my precious Cle de Peau stick concealer for undereyes. I still love it for covering blemishes, but for the eye area, my new go-to is Bobbi Brown Corrector and Concealer.

Jane Iredale offers a similar product with her concealer products. Each comes with two blendable shades. I also struggle with dark undereye circles because of my fair skin and the peach set (#2) works like a charm on me and my clients. I would be curious to compare the two products, as they are similar but have more natural ingredients.
Leah, OBV!
And do you remember that Marisa was awarded an honorary degree the year we graduated?? About the only part of the graduation ceremony I remember…
