I have hair that is on the fine side, and by fine I don’t mean satisfactory. Most people do not know the extent to which I go to plump it up. I alternate between using thickening sprays, shampoos, and even conditioners. Sometimes I use all three, say if I’m going to a black tie affair. The goal is always to resemble any member of the cast of “Valley of the Dolls”. That movie personifies the holy grail of beauty standards and all things I hold dear: big hair, pink gloss, and liquid black eyeliner on the top lid. My favorite thickening agent is Bumble and bumble’s thickening spray. It’s a bit pricey but lasts several months of daily use. They also make a dandy thickening shampoo and conditioner. The conditioner, however is not the best for hair that is damaged in addition to sparse. My perennial fave John Frieda makes a thickening spray as part of his Ready-to-Wear line that does the job nicely and is easy on your wallet. Big hair is the way to go – in fact, that was almost the title of this blog.
