In this installment of uber-stylist Matt Fugate‘s Mattification of the Nation column, he schools us on how to achieve a perfectly smooth half-up half-down hairstyle. It’s actually pretty simple. Check it, in Matt’s words:

Step 1. Start by blowing hair smooth with a large round brush.
Step 2. Then tease up crown for height and smooth top of hair over and pin in crown.
Step 3. Then smooth each side up and back to meet with the top and pin, resulting in a glamorously smooth uplifting style.
